Don't miss this great opportunity to be recognized!\n\nExtended nomination deadline: July 31\, 2025\n\nSubmit a no mination through our online form\n\nEligibility\n\n\n Nominees must be in r eceipt of a degree or diploma from one of the programs offered at the Macd onald Campus.\n Nominees must have graduated from Macdonald within the last 10 years and be under 35 years of age.\n Self-nominations will be consider ed\, as long as they are accompanied by a reference letter.\n Current facul ty and staff may be granted awards for exemplary contributions and commitm ent beyond the immediate scope of their work.\n Current members of the Dist inguished Alumni Awards Committee will not be eligible for the awards.\n\n \nCriteria\n\nThe award is given for accomplishments in one of the two fol lowing categories. The nominator is requested to select a nomination categ ory\, even if for some nominees both categories may be relevant.\n\nOutsta nding professional accomplishments\, scholarly distinction\, and/or servic e to the discipline or sector\n\nAwardees would typically have leveraged t he education received at Macdonald Campus to build an impactful career tha t has led to exceptional contributions in the discipline and/or impact on the sector. The nominee's professional accomplishments are expected to ref lect positively on the educational institution.\n\nOutstanding service to the Macdonald Campus Community\n\nAwardees typically made exceptional cont ributions to the functioning of the institution\, for example through leve raging their networks for the benefit of the institution\, supporting fund raising or other initiatives\, mentoring students\, involvement in outreac h\, or other meaningful connections.\n\nProcess\n\n\n Nominations will be c onsidered for the year in which they are submitted.\n Nominees that are not selected this year may be conserved for two years at the discretion of th e Awards Committee.\n Nominations must satisfy the criteria for one of the award categories and be received by the deadline date published.\n Awards w ill be bestowed during Homecoming every year. They are not bestowed in abs entia\, save in exceptional circumstances.\n\n\nAbout the Distinguished Al umni Awards\n\nAwarded each year at Homecoming\, the Distinguished Alumni Awards recognize graduates who have achieved outstanding accomplishments i n their professional and personal lives\, and who have been an inspiration to fellow alumni\, current students\, and/or the community.\n\nThe Macdon ald Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) was created by the Macdonald Branch o f the McGill Alumni Association to recognize distinguished graduates for t heir outstanding professional contributions\, scholarly distinction and/or service to the community at large.\n\nIn 2009\, we were pleased to introd uce the Macdonald Distinguished Young Alumni Award (DYAA)\, which recogniz es the achievements and contributions of our younger alumni.\n\n\n 2024 DYA A recipient\n\n \n Ophelia Sarakinis\, FMT’19\n\n Raised in Montreal suburbs\ , Ophelia Sarakinis' backyard was filled with chickens and a blooming vege table garden\, sparking her deep-rooted love for ag. She went from volunte ering at her nearest organic farm in high school to eventually studying co nventional agriculture at McGill.\n\n After graduating\, Ophelia realized t he urgent need to create more sustainable farming methods\, so she set up her own little indoor farm in her parents’ attic. Tired of hard\, tasteles s strawberries and concerned about their consistent rank at the top of the dirty dozen list (due to high levels of synthetic pesticides)\, she knew exactly where to start.
