DESCRIPTION:Canada is at a remarkable juncture for Space Exploration with s
cheduled deorbiting of the International Space Station by 2030\, returning
to the Lunar surface and the rise of commercial space applications. Canad
a has been a large contributor to the Artemis Program to return humans to
the Moon. \n\nThis contribution is highlighted with Canadian astronaut Jer
emy Hansen as a crew member on the Artemis II mission\, which will make Ca
nada the second country to have an astronaut travel around the Moon. Canad
a's involvement will continue with contributions to Gateway\, a space stat
ion in lunar orbit\, and a new robotic arm (Canadarm3) to this station. \n
\nMcGill University's Biomass Production Lab conducts research that suppor
ts food production in space using innovative controlled environment plant
cultivation systems for the lunar surface. This would supply the crew with
fresh food on their expeditions. Further Canadian support is expected as
we continue to build our knowledge\, with a focus on Biological Life Suppo
rt for these and future missions.\n
