Welcome to all our newly-admitted grad students!

Events for the Graduate Orientation took place on Thursday, August 29th on the downtown Montreal campus, and on Friday, August 30th at the Macdonald campus. Check out all the student-run events on the MCGSS Facebook page.

We are proud to announce that the Macdonald Graduate Orientation has been certified as a Gold McGill Sustainable Event by the McGill Office of Sustainability.

MONDAY to WEDNESDAY, Aug. 26th to 28th – Downtown Campus

Discover McGill Academic Expectations for Grads (Downtown Campus)

Attend special workshops geared toward students new to graduate and postdoctoral studies. These workshops will introduce many of the services here at McGill, and explain how to navigate and best use these services during your studies. A special series of workshops on applying for funding is also offered.

Macdonald Students are welcome to attend these valuable information sessions – if you need guidance on travelling downtown from the Mac campus during this period, please contact MCGSS representative karuna.kapoor [at] mail.mcgill.ca.

Take the Macdonald shuttle to the downtown campus to tour the downtown campus area while taking part in fun social activities to connect graduate students with one another. Lunch will be provided!

2:30 - 4:30 PM Discover McGill- Downtown Campus

New Residence Hall Ballroom

This session will provide you with information and introductions that will help ensure you have a strong start to your graduate and/or postdoctoral career at McGill. Representatives from each of the Student Services as well as the University administrative and support services will be available for you to meet and to provide you with answers to your questions.

Note: Much of the information shared at this downtown Orientation session will be given at Macdonald Campus on Friday morning, Aug. 30th.

Graduate Orientation Welcome Presentation

Welcome messages from the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Dean and Associate Dean (Graduate Education) of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The Welcome Presentation covers important information, including where to find guidance and support on your road to success as a graduate student at McGill. Introduction to the Skillsets program and graduate student society representatives as well.

Attendance to this session is part of your responsibility as a graduate student to be aware of relevant McGill procedures and regulations.

A talk given by our Local Wellness Advisor on how to cope with the mental health challenges, such as stress or anxiety, that you may encounter as you begin your grad studies and what resources are available for you at McGill and Macdonald Campus. A very valuable session! Open to returning students as well.

Sustainable Welcome Lunch for New Grad Students

The Macdonald Campus Graduate Students’ Society is pleased to host new Mac grad students for a complimentary lunch. Lunch tickets will be distributed at the Orientation morning check-in table, and are required in order to collect your lunch. Please bring your own reusable cup, cutlery, etc. The goal is for this event to be held in a manner as sustainable as possible.

Registration for this lunch will be required.

Representatives from Montreal-area banking institutions will also be available during the lunch period to provide information on their services.

Discover Macdonald – Tour of Mac Campus

Hosted by MCGSS

Meet at Ceilidh Pub (Centennial Centre)

Join other new Mac grad students on a bus tour to discover our beautiful Macdonald Campus. Stops on the tour will also include the Macdonald Campus Farm and the nearby Ecomuseum. Current students will be your tour guides. Snacks and drinks will be served.

There will be a nominal charge of $5 for this event to cover bus rental. No refunds or cancellations – Event will be held rain or shine!
