‘Lubricant Investigation in Men to Inhibit Transmission of HPV Infection’, or LIMIT-HPV, investigates the efficacy of carrageenan, a non-toxic gelling agent safe for animals and humans, in HPV prevention. Previous research has provided a basis for this study by demonstrating carrageenan’s safety and acceptability. LIMIT-HPV will look at HPV transmission in HIV-negative homosexual men, a population whose estimated prevalence of HPV infection is 65%, and in HIV-positive homosexual men, whose prevalence of HPV infection is 90%.
