Requesting an item for pick-up
You can request any available regular loan item be delivered from any McGill branch library or storage location for pick-up at any other McGill branch library.
To request an item for pick-up, search for it in the library catalogue, and select the “Place hold” link.
Items requested will be retrieved within 4 business days, Monday to Friday.
You will be notified by email when the requested item is retrieved and ready for you to pick up. The item will be held for you at the branch library for 4 days.
It is also possible to place requests for items that are “on order” or “in process”.
Requests for pick-up cannot be placed on Course Reserve items.
Requesting an item that is currently out to another user
If you wish to borrow an item that is currently out to another user, you may use either the “Place a recall” or “Place hold” link in the library catalogue.
There are 2 types of requests:
- Selecting the “recall” option, if available, will usually shorten the due date of the previous borrower. You will be the next borrower in line.
- Recall requests cannot be placed on Course Reserve items.
- Selecting the “hold” option will ensure that you are added to the list of interested borrowers. A hold request does not alter the loan period of the previous borrower.
- Hold requests cannot be placed on Course Reserve items.
You will be notified by email when the requested item is returned. The item will be held for you at the branch library for 4 days.
You can view details about your hold and recall requests, and delete requests for items no longer needed, in your library account.
