Images of the Neuro by Dr. William Feindel. OUT OF PRINT. A collection of essays showcasing the unique history of the Montreal Neurological Institute affectionately called The Neuro. Dr. William Feindel, Emeritus Director of the MNI and Honorary Osler Librarian, has been at The Neuro for sixty of those years and the essays that he has compiled are his "eye witness" accounts of the people and early history of The Neuro, accompanied by a fine archive of photos taken throughout the years.

Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine

For scholars and admirers of Sir William Osler, the Osler Library of McGill University is pleased to present a publication series, Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine. The focus of the series is to publish works centered on the Osler Library and its collections, on its founder Sir William Osler, and on the history of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of McGill University. The volumes of the series are:

1. McGill Medical Luminaries by Dr. Edward H. Bensley. A collection of biographical essays on over forty major figures in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of McGill University.

2. Oslerian Verse edited and annotated by Dr. Richard L. Golden. OUT OF PRINT. An anthology of poetry, by and about Sir William Osler and his circle. This is Dr. Golden's first contribution to the Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine series.

3. The Works of Egerton Yorrick Davis, MD: Sir William Osler's Alter Ego edited, annotated and introduced by Dr. Richard L. Golden. A collection of writings by the fictitious surgical character, E.Y. 7. Dearest G ... Yours, WO: William Osler's Letters from Egypt to Grace Revere Osler, edited by Dr. Lawrence D. Longo and former Osler Librarian, Philip M. Teigen, with a foreword by Dr. Charles G. Roland and a postscript by Caroline-Isabelle Caron. Sir William Osler went to Egypt in 1911 and this book reproduces the letters he wrote to his wife, Grace Revere Osler. It's full of wonderful photographs and historical information that reveals Osler's life during that time.

8. A History of William Osler's The Principles and Practice of Medicine, by Dr. Richard L. Golden. OUT OF PRINT. The Principles and Practice of Medicine is known as one of the great textbooks of modern medicine and in his book Dr. Golden recounts the history of Osler's famous textbook, detailing its many editions and numerous translations into other languages. This is Dr. Golden's third contribution to the Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine.

9. The Life and Work of J.L.W. Thudichum, 1829-1901, by Dr. Theodore L. Sourkes. This book reveals the many contributions of Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Thudichum, a pioneer in biomedical research and often described as the “chemist of the brain”. This volume originated from an exhibit that was prepared by Dr. Sourkes to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Thudichum's death and it was displayed at the Osler Library from November 2001 to January 2003.

10. William Osler's The Transatlantic Voice: A Philological Study by Dr. Richard L. Golden, Dr. Charles S. Bryan and Dr. John T. Golden. Osler's unpublished manuscript on philological linguistics brought to light with true Oslerian and scholarly annotations. This is Dr. Golden's fourth contribution to the Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine series.

11. "Noted Surgeon, Fine Citizen": The Life of Archibald E. Malloch, MD, 1844-1919, by the renowned Canadian Medical Historian, the late Dr. Charles Roland, Jason Hannah Professor Emeritus, McMaster University.This biography of the man who introduced Joseph Lister's concept of antiseptic surgery to Canada, paints a lively picture of the world of 19th century medicine, particularly in Canada and describes the close relationship between the Malloch and Osler families.

12. William Osler's The Beginnings of Modern Medicine: A Historiographic Study, by Dr. Richard L. Golden. “The Beginnings of Modern Medicine” was first delivered in August 1909 at the Oxford University Summer School. This address formed the basis of the Silliman Lectures delivered at Yale University in 1913 and the posthumous publication in 1921 of The Evolution of Modern Medicine. Dr. Golden's annotations breathe new life into a work dear to Osler's heart. This is Dr. Golden's fifth contribution to the Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine series.

13. The Lessons of Greek Medicine: William Osler's Cardinal Ethic by Dr. Richard L. Golden, his 6th publication in the Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine. Dr. Golden's work is a continuation of his efforts to make previously unpublished works by Sir William Osler available. It offers an overview of Hellenistic medicine and provides us with a deeper understanding of Osler's historiography.

Portraits of Ophthalmology at McGill University, 1876-1990 by Dr. Sean B. Murphy. OUT OF PRINT. In this book, Dr. Murphy, a Professor of Ophthalmology at McGill for 30 years and currently Emeritus Professor, describes the people who were responsible for founding the department and developing it into the centre for training, research and treatment which it has become.

Video – Willie: A Dream, A Dramatic Monologue Portraying Sir William Osler by Joseph W. Lella. This 50 minute videotape was filmed in colour at the Osler Library and contains beautiful views of the library, its collection, photographs from Osler's life and times and other memorabilia. The monologue is also available in book form under the series Osler Library Studies in the History of Medicine, No. 6.
