Who can use the Library Pickup Service?

McGill students, faculty and staff can take advantage of the service. We are not currently able to accommodate requests from Alumni and community borrowers.

How fast is this service?

Processing a request may take up to 5 business days. If the service is very popular, it may take longer to process requests. Please consider prioritizing requests.

Can I request books and other items from other branch libraries through the pickup service?

At this time, books and other materials like DVDs and CDs housed in the McLennan-Redpath Complex, the Nahum Gelber Law Library, the Islamic Studies Library, and the Marvin Duchow Music Library, Birks Reading Room, and Education Curriculum Resource Centre are available through this service.

Can I request books on course reserves?

Course reserves are not available at this time.

What happens if multiple individuals request the same item?

All requests are triaged on a first-come, first-serve basis. Staff will review the time-stamp on the request forms if multiple users request the same item on the same day. If there are not sufficient copies of an item, users will be notified that their request cannot be processed at that time.

I am a new student, how can I obtain my McGill ID card so I can request library materials for pickup?

Prior to placing a request through the Library Pickup Service, please request and pickup your McGill ID card from Service Point. More information about this process is available from Student Records: https://www.mcgill.ca/student-records/personal-information/id If you have made an appointment to obtain your McGill ID card, and would like to place a request in the meantime, please contact hsslloans.library [at] mcgill.ca

What if I need to use the washroom when I arrive at the library?

The McLennan Library Building and Marvin Duchow Music Library, including the washrooms, are closed until further notice. If you need to access washrooms at the Nahum Gelber Law Library, you will need to book a study hub seat.

I am a person with reduced mobility and cannot access the stairs leading up to the McLennan entrance. What do I do?

Reduced mobility users can access the McLennan terrace entrance by heading north on McTavish Street and turning right at the McTavish Gates. Pass Redpath Hall and make another right to the McLennan-Redpath Terrace. As you make your way down the terrace you will face the McLennan terrace and tent.

How will physical distancing be maintained?

Library users who have received confirmation to pick up materials will line-up in front of the welcome table. Everyone will be required to maintain 2 metres of physical distance from one another.

Can I send someone to pick up requested materials on my behalf?

If you are unable to pick up your own items and would like to send someone on your behalf, please contact the pickup branch directly to ensure that your delegate’s name is added to the retrieval list.
