Professor Lionel Smith Awarded 2014 Killam Fellowship

On March 18, 2014, the Arts Council of Canada announced the recipients of the 2014 Killam Fellowships. Among the five nominees is Professor Lionel Smith, director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law and a James McGill Professor at the Faculty of Law of McGill University.

Professor Lionel Smith's Killam award will allow him to carry out a two-year full-time research project entitled Conflicts of Interest and Fiduciary Obligations.

Renowned anthropologist and winner of the 2013 Holberg Prize, Bruno Latour, will be coming to speak on "Gaia, Anthropology and the Law."

His reflections will pursue a theme he undertook in the 2013 Gifford Lectures at the University of Edinburgh, entitled “Facing Gaia, Six Lectures on the Political Theology of Nature.”

A Legal Theory Workshop with Annalise Acorn, Thomas Lawlor Professor of Law and Ethics, Faculty of Law, University of Alberta.

Professor Acorn's topic is “Hero Worship”, which continues her investigation of law and emotion. She has taught and written about legal themes in literature and this talk will also be further in that vein, focussing considerably upon George Eliot’s Middlemarch.
