On February 4, 2014, during an evening reception held in the Common Room, the Faculty of Law presented Stuart H. “Kip” Cobbett, BCL’72, with the James A. Robb Award to honour his exceptional work as a volunteer at the Faculty of Law and, more broadly, at McGill University.
The event was attended by Principal Suzanne Fortier, Provost Anthony C. Masi, Chancellor Arnold Steinberg, Dean Daniel Jutras, Mr. Norm Steinberg, Chair of the Faculty Advisory Board, as well as by Mr. James Robb himself.
Systematic discrimination against women and girls with disabilities continues to result in the denial of the rights to experience their sexuality, to have sexual relationships and to found and maintain families. While the right to integrity and the right of a woman to make her own reproductive choices are contained in a number of international human rights treaties, women with disabilities continue to be denied these rights through practices such as forced sterilization, sexual violence and the removal of their legal capacity in many parts of the world.

LSA President Selected from a Pool of 500 Applicants
This year’s President of the McGill Law Student Association, Éloïse Gagné, is one of 11 Canadian university students who will spend a day shadowing some of the country’s top senior executives.
Gagné will shadow Thierry Vandal, President and CEO of Hydro-Québec, on February 12. The fourth-year student will have the opportunity to put into practice the concepts she has been learning at the Faculty, and to acquire real-world tools and skills she’ll need when launching her career.
DCL candidate Amar Khoday will be defending his thesis, "Legitimizing resistance? International refugee law and the protection of individuals resisting oppression", which was prepared under the supervision of Professor Frédéric Mégret.
The McGill Human Rights Working Group (International Justice Portfolio), together with the the Muslim Law Student Association and the Human Rights Committee, presents a bilingual discussion on the rise of the extreme right in Europe / une discussion bilingue sur la montée des extrêmes droites en Europe:
