Welcome new incoming graduate students starting Fall 2013!

Welcome to the Faculty of Law at McGill University. In anticipation of your upcoming graduate studies, please read carefully the information below. All students must register for the upcoming academic year as well as complete the Course Selection Form prior to meeting with the Associate Dean.

If you've received a letter of offer of admission, make sure to read Newly admitted students to the graduate programs on our Law Admissions site, to find out what you need to know and do.

Lectures begin September 3, 2013. All important dates are posted on the web.

Advising and Registration

All new admitted DCL, LLM and Certificate students will meet with Prof. Angela Campbell, Associate Dean, Graduate Studies in Law; prior to the beginning of classes. Appointments will take place from August 26 to 30, 2013 (DCL students until September 6).

Please refer to the “Meetings with Associate Dean Calendar” and select your preferred date and e-mail us at grad [dot] law [at] mcgill [dot] ca.  In the Subject line, please write “Appointment with Associate Dean”.


 Registration for the Fall 2013 and Winter 2014 academic year for new graduate students opens on Minerva as of July 9.

  • Official registration period: July 9, 2013 to August 14, 2013; otherwise a late registration fee will be charged.
  • Register for BOTH the Fall 2013 and Winter 2014 terms


- Fall 2013 = 201309, CRN # 2334

- Winter 2014 = 201401, CRN # 2262

  • Log into Minerva > Student Menu > Registration Menu > Step 2: Search Class Schedule and Add Course Sections > Select a term (Fall 2013) > Click Submit > Select REGN - Registration for Subject > Enter RCGR in Course Number > Click Get Course Sections at bottom of page > Check off the box for CRN 2334 > Follow instructions (Repeat this process for Winter 2014, choosing CRN 2262)
  • Register for all compulsory courses listed on your Course Selection Form (see below).
  • Register for any 500 or 600 level elective courses you wish to take in the Faculty of Law. (Refer to Course Offerings List)
  • If you wish to take a course outside the Faculty of Law, you will need the permission of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies in Law, and the Department offering the course.
  • Please also review the information posted on the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office (GPS) site regarding Registration and Orientation. 
  • All incoming graduate students this fall must complete a mandatory on-line Academic Integrity Tutorial on Minerva.

Welcome and Orientation

Each year, the Faculty of Law and the Graduate Law Students Association welcome new students and help them get settled in. McGill University also provides information and support so as to welcome graduate students from around the world.

Schedule of Events

A number of orientation events are hosted by the Graduate Law Students Association (GLSA) and the Faculty to welcome new graduate students and introduce them to the Law community and the city of Montreal. You are all encouraged to part take in these activities!

Please also register for an ICS information session at IT Knowledge Base.  N.B. Enter your own email address in the Supervisor secion.
