What happened from October 2015 through March 2016
McGill Wireless Network service is now available in some outdoor areas on the downtown campus. Additional WiFi access points will be added this spring.
We are in the process of decommissioning the EVault archiving service in preparation for the move of faculty and staff mailboxes to Office 365. Messages from EVault are being moved to an in-place archive folder.
The Audiovisual Equipment Loans office at 688 Sherbrooke West, room 285 will now be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm. The office at Macdonald campus is open from 9 to 5.
You can now add people to your McGill Skype for Business contact list even if they are using regular Skype.
Alertus software is used to communicate health and safety notifications to your desktop on the McGill network. New versions are now available for Windows and Mac.
IT Service Management Project
IT Services is currently undertaking a major project to overhaul our internal operations. There are three phases to the project; the first two affect internal processes only (Change, Incident, Internal Requests and Problem Management). The final phase will involve a customer-facing portal for IT requests, incident reporting and support. More information will be forthcoming as the project progresses.
What's on the horizon
Banner, Minerva ApplicationXtender (imaging) will be upgraded from April 1 to April 5. Several critical services will be unavailable during this period.
Office 365 email for faculty and staff
Faculty and staff mailboxes currently hosted on McGill's central Exchange server (email addresses that end in @mcgill.ca) will begin moving to the Office 365 cloud in May 2016.
