COMPLETED: Trend Micro OfficeScan upgrade October 4, 10, 11

IT Services has successfully installed new critical patches for Trend Micro OfficeScan on all campus computers and laptops.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE

IT Services will be installing two new critical patches on McGill’s Antivirus server, Trend Micro OfficeScan, on all campus computers and laptops. Home computers are not affected.

End of support for Office 2007 - no access to email on Office 365 after October 31, 2017

Microsoft has announced it is ending support for Office 2007 as of October 10, 2017. This means there will be no support for technical issues or bug fixes and no security updates for vulnerabilities.

In addition, as of October 31, 2017 Outlook 2007 will be unable to connect to Office 365 mailboxes.

Apple Mail app in iOS 11 incompatible with Email on Office 365

If you have upgraded your iPhone or iPad to iOS 11 you may encounter issues accessing your McGill email. That's because the Mail app on newly released iOS 11 is currently not compatible with Outlook.com (email on Office 365).  If you are still using iOS 9 or iOS 10, you are not affected.

Phishing scam with multiple subjects and senders: "Validate Your McGill Account" & "Important Alert"

There are multiple phishing emails circulating from different senders asking users to click on a link to validate their email account. The link redirects to a fake login page. The email subjects are "Validate your McGill Account" and "Important Alert from McGill University Admin".
