Worf (Novell NetWare) public domain server decommissioning

As part of the overall university initiative to phase out NetWare file and print services, all services currently provided by WORF (public domain NetWare server) will be migrated to a Windows environment or eliminated no later than Friday, January 14, 2005.

At this point in time there are four services that may be in use by a small number of departments, so NetWare system administrators should be aware that a change may be required, as follows.

FTP Access:
Users who FTP to WORF.CC.MCGILL.CA in order to access files on their departmental NetWare server will have to use CSBACKUP.CC.MCGILL.CA as a replacement. The change can be made as of now, but must be completed no later than Friday, January 7, 2005.

Shared Data Area:
All existing files and access to \\WORF\SHAREDVOL by system administrators for temporary storage (scratch space) will be removed by Friday, December 17, 2004.

The Novell Service Location Provider service will be eliminated. System administrators who have customized Client32 to use pure IP access should ensure that those clients are using as the SLP server by Friday, January 7, 2005.

Worf Server Removal:
The server will be permanently removed from service on Friday, January 14, 2005.
