Current Research

My current research project is editing The Routledge Handbook of Persian Second Language Acquisition (2020). The book is divided into seven parts of Persian-specific linguistic features, theoretical research on Persian second language acquisition, classroom research on Persian second language acquisition, heritage language learning versus second language acquisition, teaching methodologies in Persian second language acquisition, technology-based second language acquisition, and social aspects of teaching Persian as a second language. Topics relevant to the specific linguistic features of Persian include morphological specific features, syntactic specific features, and semantic specific features. Topics explored in the theoretical research include acquisition of second language phonology and prosody, acquisition of second language morphology, acquisition of second language syntax, and acquisition of second language semantics. Subjects relevant to classroom research encompass acquisition of second language vocabulary, acquisition of second language grammar, acquisition of second language listening, acquisition of second language speaking, acquisition of second language reading, acquisition of second language writing, and second language assessment. The fourth part delves into subtle differences between heritage language learning and second language acquisition in the three areas of phonology, morphology, and syntax, while the fifth part deals with the most recent and common teaching methodologies used in Persian second language classrooms. The sixth part focuses on the current advances of technology use in teaching and assessing Persian second language proficiency, and the seventh part concentrates on the social aspects of Persian language, including themes, such as a standard Persian, teaching Persian varieties and dialects, Persian interlanguage, and the structure and function of Persian-English code-switching.
