DESCRIPTION:This workshop brings participants to basic concepts of accessib
 ility within the specific realm of social media and event planning. Learne
 rs will go over basic terminology related to accessibility\, disability\, 
 and ableism\, common barriers for those with disabilities\, then receive p
 ractical advice and strategies towards creating more accessible\, proactiv
 e programming. Participants will apply these learnings in real-time indepe
 ndent and mini-group breakout rooms so to practice their newfound skills. 
 There will also be a checklist of accessibilizing mechanisms to apply in s
 ocial media and event planning.Learning Objectives:- Examine the terminolo
 gy surrounding accessibility\, disability\, and ableism- Identify potentia
 l accessibility barriers in events and communications- Design actionable p
 lans addressing these barriersIMPORTANT: Students must register with their

  and Our Shared Spaces (OSS) are committed to providing educational conten
 t that is accessible to as many audiences as possible\, regardless of abil
 ity. In the COVID-19 context\, our workshops are provided via Zoom with au
 tomatic transcription enabled. Our PowerPoints go through an accessibility
 -checker\, and if instructions are provided\, they are given verbally and 
 via written text. We provide content warnings throughout the workshop as n
 eeded. As a participant\, you will have ample opportunity for varied engag
 ement\, some examples are via the Zoom chat function\, breakout rooms\, li
 stening\, and verbally in the larger group. There are no scheduled breaks 
 but we encourage participants to take them as needed.If you have any speci
