DESCRIPTION:This workshop serves to introduce participants to the concept o
 f gender as a spectrum. Participants will go over terminology related to g
 ender identity and gender expression\, as well as some labels used by Quee
 r communities to speak to their experiences. Learners will make connection
 s between ongoing processes of intersecting oppressions\, specifically col
 onialism\, and the suppression of gender diversity. They will then apply t
 hese terms and analyses to discuss media portrayals of Queer communities a
 nd gender-related microaggressions.Learning Objectives:- Define the concep
 ts of the spectrum of genders\, gender expressions\, gender identities\, a
 nd supporting terminology- Examine the role of colonialism\, racism\, and 
 other systems of oppression in constructing gender and gender roles- Use p
 opular media and thinkers to support and unpack terms and concepts- Situat
 e oneself in conversations and concepts of gender\, both on-campus and in

 s (OSS) are committed to providing educational content that is accessible 
 to as many audiences as possible\, regardless of ability. In the COVID-19 
 context\, our workshops are provided via Zoom with automatic transcription
  enabled. Our PowerPoints go through an accessibility-checker\, and if ins
 tructions are provided\, they are given verbally and via written text. We 
 provide content warnings throughout the workshop as needed. As a participa
 nt\, you will have ample opportunity for varied engagement\, some examples
  are via the Zoom chat function\, breakout rooms\, listening\, and verball
 y in the larger group. There are no scheduled breaks but we encourage part
