DESCRIPTION:The Supporting Loved Ones Event aims to provide a safe space wh
ere folks can come together and feel supported in their efforts to support
loved ones with disordered eating and eating disorders. This is a time wh
ere individuals are welcome to come with questions or just to listen to tw
o Douglas Institute therapists. Discussion will surround how you can care
for someone\, and how you can support yourself in the process.  ☆ MEET OUR
SPEAKERS ☆ Alexandra Richard is a fourth-year PhD student in the Clinical
Psychology program at McGill University. Her research focuses on investig
ating the mechanisms by which perfectionism acts as a cognitive-personalit
y vulnerability factor that places individuals at greater risk for decreas
ed well-being\, including anxiety\, and depression. Her clinical training
has focused on working with adults with mood\, anxiety\, and eating disord
ers. She has completed clinical placements at McGill Counselling Services
and the Emotional Health CBT Clinic and is presently an intern at the Doug
las Hospital’s Eating Disorders Continuum.  Catherine Hébert is completing
the third year of her Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at McGill Universit
y under the supervision of Dr. Martin Drapeau. Her research interest is fo
cused on best practices in psychology\, differential responses to cognitiv
e behavioral therapy for depression\, and the psychotherapy process. She c
ompleted her master's internship at the SASS Counselling and Coaching clin
ic where she provided short-term and long-term personal counseling to univ
ersity students. She currently works at the Medipsy clinic offering psycho
therapy for mood\, anxiety\, and eating disorders while also completing an
internship at the Douglas Hospital in the Eating Disorders Continuum clin
ic.  LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:While this event is happening virtually\, the ED
RSC is based in Tiohtiá:ke\, colonially known as Montreal. Therefore\, we
must acknowledge that this entire island is located on unceded and unsurre
ndered Indigenous land. The Kanien’kehá:ka Nation are recognized as the cu
stodians of the land and water on which we gather today. Tiohtiá:ke has hi
storically been an important meeting place for different Indigenous nation
 s. We must recognize the unique and disproportionate hardships Indigenous
people have faced and continue to face as a result of colonialism. It is i
mportant to not only acknowledge these hardships but to also actively resi
st colonialism and neo-colonialism in the diversity of forms they take\, a
s we stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples. We encourage settlers to
acknowledge their privilege and question how they are working to be anti-
 oppressive every day.
