also invited to register with the Microsoft Forms link. 'Artificial Intel
ligence is the new electricity.' - Andrew Ng\, Stanford Adjunct Professor
Machine learning (ML) is the science of developing intelligent computers t
hat can 'learn' through experience. ML crucially improved our understandin
g of big data in the past decade and led to many essential technologies in
our daily lives\, such as speech recognition\, recommender systems\, and
personal assistants. In this workshop\, you will learn about principles of
machine learning and gain practice in implementing them for the real-worl
d problems. We will start the workshop by implementing a fundamental machi
ne learning algorithm known as multi-layer perceptrons to gain intuition a
bout how machines learn. Then\, we will cover optimization and regularizat
ion techniques to learn the underlying principles of machine learning and
discuss how we can make algorithms more intelligent.Prerequisite(s)- Famil
iarity with Python (i.e.\, used Python and wrote couple scripts before)- B
asic understanding of calculus and linear algebra (i.e.\, knowing what a m
atrix and derivative is)- Study the pre-workshop exercise (Intro to Google
  Colab & Pytorch\, estimated time: ~35 - 60 mins)System/Installation Requi
rements: We will do the workshop exercises on Google Colab. Colab is a Jup
yter Notebook-like environment running on your web browser developed by th
e Google Research team. So\, the only requirement for the workshop is havi
ng a Gmail account and being signed in to your Gmail account on your prefe
rred web browser.  **IMPORTANT NOTICE: Attendance for McGill graduate stud
ents and postdoctoral fellows is subsidized by Graduate and Postdoctoral S
tudies. All other attendees such as undergraduate students\, interns and/o
r graduate students from other institutions are required to purchase a tic
ket to cover organizational and staffing costs. To complete your registrat
 ion\, you must e-transfer $10 (undergraduate student/trainee) $25 (staff)
or $100 (faculty) to workshop-micm [at] mcgill.ca within 24 hours of RSVP'
ing to this event. If we do not receive your e-transfer\, you will have gi
 ven up your spot.
