Financial Skills for the Real World: Introduction to Cryptocurrencies

Tuesday, June 27, 2023 10:00to12:00
 Introduction to Cryptocurrencies

The last few years have seen phenomenal gains for many cryptocurrencies before going through a significant crash in late 2017 out of which they have yet to recover from. Does this mean that now is the time you should invest in some of them for the next large move up? What are some of the main things to watch out for when buying altcoins or tokens? How risky are these "investments" if they can even be labeled as such? There are currently over 5,800 different cryptocurrencies/tokens and some are orders of magnitude riskier than others, while others still are outright scams. How can you tell the difference?

Learning Outcomes:
• Learn about cryptocurrency basics: private vs. public keys, mining, tokens, wallets, and much more.
• Familiarize yourself with potential risks of various types of altcoins or tokens.
• Learn about various cryptocurrency scams and ways to avoid them.
