The Buddy Program

To help you transition to life in Montreal and at McGill, the Buddy Program connects new international students with returning students. Returning McGill students provide the friendly face, the helping hand, and the first Montreal friendship that can make a world of difference for newly arriving international students like yourself. Buddies can also offer linguistic support, cultural guidance and information about life at McGill, Montreal and Canada.

The Buddy Program offers new students:

     Typical activities might include:

  • linguistic support

  • cultural guidance

  • information about life at McGill

  • showing students around campus
  • locating banks and grocery stores near the University
  • discussing Montreal neighbourhoods to help find an apartment
  • chatting over a cup of coffee

Registration for Fall 2021 is open! Sign up here: https://mcgillbuddyprogram.com

If you have questions, please refer to the New Student FAQs

Now in its 33rd year, the Buddy Program has helped thousands of international students settle into McGill and Montreal.

Volunteers and new students are paired on a rolling basis during the year, allowing new Fall students to be in touch with their buddies over the summer. There is no hard deadline for signing up, although it's important for both volunteers and new students to sign up before the term begins in order to ensure a smooth pairing.
