Volunteering in Canada
Important! "Volunteering" generally refers to unpaid activities that support a charitable or non-profit organization, project, or campaign. If you’re “working” for a company but not being paid, or engaging in an activity that would qualify as "work experience" (e.g. tutoring) – it’s considered “work” and you will need a work permit before you start. See the detailed definitions of work & volunteering on the CIC website.
A wealth of volunteering opportunities in a variety of different areas (within McGill, in Montreal, and even internationally) are available on the following sites:
- International Student Services
- Career Placement Services (CaPS)
- Social Equity & Diversity Education (SEDE)
