In addition to having a valid passport, all non-Canadians coming to McGill for a program that is 6 months or longer* must obtain a:
Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ)
authorization to live and study in Quebec, issued by Immigration Quebec
Study Permit
authorization to live and study in Canada, issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada
* Students enrolled in programs shorter than 6 months (e.g. 1-term exchanges) do not need a CAQ and Study Permit but may need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). See below for details.

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) - International students from certain countries require a TRV (or "Entry Visa") to study in Canada.
Students from certain countries must undergo a medical examination if they intend to remain in Canada for six months or more.
Citizens of certain countries will be required to submit biometric data - see the list of countries and instructions here.
Minors - students who are younger than 17 years old when they arrive in Canada - must have a legal custodian.
Students in programs of study with mandatory co-op or internship terms must obtain a Co-op/Internship Work Permit (along with their Study Permit).
