EAGLE SPIRIT SCIENCE FUTURES 2021
We're going virtual!
Welcome to the Eagle Spirit Science Futures Camp webpage!
Eagle Spirit Science Futures is an outreach initiative for Indigenous youth hosted by the Indigenous Health Professions Program in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The Eagle Spirit Science Futures Camp includes science teachings from an Indigenous point-of-view with a land-based curriculum woven into the experience, cultural activities, and hands-on health-science workshops intended to pique the campers’ interest in science and post-secondary education.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the uncertainty of restrictions on gathering, and upon consultation with our community partners, we have decided to take the camp virtual this year. Our usual summer science and health camp will be modified to fit a pre-recorded format for 2021.
All camp content will be filmed as video modules, formatted onto flash-drives, and packaged with any and all materials needed to carry out the activities. These camp kits will be mailed to participants' home addresses free of cost for the students to complete on their own timelines. No internet connection is required to participate in the process but an optional online opening event is planned for June 21st, 2021 which can be attended by anyone interested.
We are looking to invite Indigenous youth in grade 7/8 (Sec I/II) to register and participate. Students from grade 9-11 (Sec 3-5) are also welcomed to sign-up.
