Wi-Fi network: Action required for devices on iOS and MacOS to renew certificate

Published: 18 June 2024

On Friday, June 21, the security certificate that secures authentication to McGill's, eduroam, and Wi-Fi networks will be renewed. This certificate allows you to sign on to the Wi-Fi network in a secure manner.

For Android and most Windows devices, the change will be seamless, and no action is required. However, devices that run iOS and MacOS will display a message prompting users to accept the new certificate.

For users with iOS and/or MacOS devices, please follow the instructions below to accept the certificate (see attached document for screenshots).

  1. Ensure that the certificate is issued by Thawte RSA CA 2018.
  2. Click More Details and verify that the Issuer is DigiCert Inc and the Validity Period from 2024-06-10 to 2025-06-23
  3. Once you have verified the information, tap on Certificate to go back and select Trust to access the Wi-Fi network

  1. When prompted to Verify Certificate, select Show Certificate to ensure that the certificate was issued by DigiCert Global Root CA and Thawte RSA CA 2018 and that the expiry date is Monday, June 23, 2025.
  2. Once you have verified the information, accept the certificate by selecting Continue to access the Wi-Fi network.

If you experience Wi-Fi connectivity issues, please contact the IT Service Desk.
