About Montreal

The Hospitals Conference will be held near McGill University. There will not be a venue hotel selected for this conference. Montreal is a city with ample, diverse and reasonably priced accommodation options and we recommend participants make their own arrangements for accommodation. McGill does have recommended hotels in the vicinity, at which it is possible for participants to obtain the preferential McGill rate. For more information, please consult our Visitors Guide (below). Montreal has a buzzing, multicultural and culturally vibrant downtown core, all within easy reach of the conference venue. October is a particularly pleasant time to visit our city and you will find much to do in town over your visit. We hope you have an enjoyable stay.

Web-map tools [such as Google Maps or Yahoo Maps] will help you plan your drive to McGill University. Using " 805 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal" as the destination address will lead you directly to our campus gates, located on the corner of McGill College Avenue and Sherbrooke Street West.

Getting around the city

1) Public transit. You can easily get from one location to another using Montreal’s transit system: STM. Three-day fare passes for 18$, which allows unlimited access to the STM bus and metro system may be purchased. For more fare information, please see STM fare info. Individual tickets can also be purchased with coins directly on the bus.

2) Taxi. If the public transit routes or schedules do not suit your needs, taxis can be hailed on most major streets. Alternatively, pick-up can be arranged by phone. Major taxi services include:

Parking is not available on the McGill campus. While there are metered parking spaces available along Sherbrooke Street, as well as a limited number available along University Street, you are restricted to paying for two hours of parking at a time. Please be advised that time does not accumulate on these meters - the pay station treats each transaction as if it were dealing with a new customer.

If you will be spending a good portion of your day on campus, you may prefer to park in one of the commercial parking lots close by. Daily parking rates are relatively standard from one commercial lot to the next. Alternatively, as our campus is centrally located in downtown Montreal, you may favor leaving your car at your hotel and walking over.
