McGill and AGSEM TAs meet in conciliation

Published: 8May2015

The parties met for a half-day on May 4 with the conciliator appointed by the Ministry of Labour.  This was their first meeting following the one-day strike held on April 16. The conciliator helped the parties clarify the points which still need to be discussed.

Since the parties already expressed the reasoning behind their positions, the session served as an opportunity to see where movement could occur on each side. The dialogue was open and the parties exchanged proposals on the items that are still pending.  Some progress was made and the parties agreed to continue negotiations in the presence of the conciliator on May 12 and 13.

This update is to inform the community of the evolution of negotiations with AGSEM teaching assistants in view of the renewal of their collective agreement and is issued without validation from the union.
