Employee Benefits for Postdoctoral Researchers

Published: 3 August 2017

Dear Postdoctoral Researchers,

Following the decision of a government-appointed arbitrator, a three-year collective agreement has been finalized between McGill University and AMURE (Postdocs), effective August 1, 2017. The new collective agreement includes benefits coverage for many members of the AMURE (Postdocs) bargaining unit.

Please consult McGill’s eligibility requirements to determine whether you qualify for benefits.

If you are eligible, you should soon receive a message from Human Resources with enrolment instructions specific to your situation. This will be sent to your employee email address (@mcgill.ca), not your student one (@mail.mcgill.ca). If you do not receive this message by August 18, please contact postdocs.hr [at] mcgill.ca to help ensure uninterrupted coverage. It is imperative that you follow these instructions by the deadline specified, as your PGSS benefits will expire as of the end of August.

If you do not do this, you will be automatically enrolled (if eligible) in McGill’s default benefits plan (i.e. the single health plan, as well as life and disability insurance). You will not receive dental insurance or be enrolled in a pension plan, and your spouse and/or dependents will not receive McGill benefits.

Further information about McGill benefits and coverage can be found here.

If you have any questions about your eligibility or coverage, please contact us at postdocs.hr [at] mcgill.ca or 514-398-4747.

Many thanks,
