CoachingOurselves - Reflection Café: Igniting Momentum with Customer Insights

Course objectives:
These 90-minute lunch time peer-coaching sessions provide a unique opportunity to talk and reflect on issues you face at McGill. In groups of 4-6 participants, discussions are guided by a facilitator and cover over 80 CoachingOurselves modules. The facilitator can be an HR professional, coach or one of the participants themselves (self-directed sessions). This framework, created by Dr. Henry Mintzberg and Phil LeNir, is a proven process to catalyze informal and social learning in organizations. Topic themes range from engaging and strengthening teams, to enhancing communication, driving change, basic management skills and strategic thinking. Sessions can also be arranged within your team or across your Faculty or Unit.
Some companies are able to deliver sustained exceptional growth year after year: they have momentum. Companies such as IKEA, Virgin Atlantic, and Apple come to mind. What is the key to their success? An external focus promoting continual insights into their customers’ needs. Igniting momentum in your organization starts first and foremost with customer engagement: exploring the customers’ space and then developing compelling offers. In this topic, you will discuss four paths to systematically investigating your customer’s needs in search of insights. Everything else a company does is dependent on the quality of this exploration process. The objectives for this topic are to:
Appreciate how customer insights fuel momentum in organizations.
Investigate four paths to discovery.
Discuss how you can apply this to your organization and the potential barriers to success.
