OD - Organizational Development module

CoachingOurselves: Reflection Cafe - Appreciating Appreciative Inquiry

Duration: 0.1 days
Target population: All staff members in management and excluded positions
Cost: $0
Course objectives:
These 90-minute lunch time peer-coaching sessions provide a unique opportunity to talk and reflect on issues you face at McGill. In groups of 4-6 participants, discussions are guided by a facilitator and cover over 80 CoachingOurselves modules. The facilitator can be an HR professional, coach or one of the participants themselves (self-directed sessions). This framework, created by Dr. Henry Mintzberg and Phil LeNir, is a proven process to catalyze informal and social learning in organizations. Topic themes range from engaging and strengthening teams, to enhancing communication, driving change, basic management skills and strategic thinking. Sessions can also be arranged within your team or across your Faculty or Unit.
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) offers an alternative to the problem solving approach that dominates most organizations today. AI focuses on what is already working within an organization and why it works in order to build from strengths that exist but may be hidden from view.

The famous management writer, Peter Drucker, argued that the task of leadership is to create an alignment of strengths, thus making weaknesses irrelevant. David has argued that organizations grow toward what they persistently ask questions about. In this session, you will ask questions to reveal the positive core within your organization.

The objectives of this session are to:

-Differentiate between problem solving and appreciative inquiry.
-Learn how to ask appreciative questions.
-Appreciate how the strength and potential of your organization can flow from your personal stories and imaginations.
