Image Caption:
Paper birch can be found in every Canadian region except high in the arctic. Until recent times, it was hugely important for its use in canoe building and had many other uses as well. Its white, paper-textured bark sheds naturally from the tree in large sections, and is one of the best fuels for starting fires, as the oil in the bark makes a strong and hot flame. The trees get to be fairly large large when they are mature.
