Arguably one of the most beautiful trees of the region, white pine is tall and graceful when mature, often with impressive thick branches extending far out from the main trunk. Pines bear their needles in small bunches along their twigs, which is an easy way to identify them. White pine has five long (~10 cm), thin needles in each of its bunches. The cones are 10-20 cm long, and hang from the branches. White pine has great cultural significance to the region, having long been symbolic of union and peace for the Haudenosaunee, as well as having been a valuable early export from the Montréal region.
