New funding program launching for undergraduate students

Healthy Brains, Healthy Lives (HBHL) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2024 HBHL Undergraduate Summer Research Internship. Created in collaboration between HBHL and the HBHL Trainee Committee, this opportunity aims to include students at all levels in brain health research, providing McGill undergraduate students with a hands-on research experience.

About the HBHL Undergraduate Summer Research Internship:

McGill undergraduate students who have not previously conducted paid research will have the opportunity to work full-time in the lab of a McGill professor over the course of 16 weeks. HBHL will be funding $10,000 per participating student, with up to 20 internships available. Open to students from all faculties, this program fosters research opportunities for those underrepresented in STEM, as well as all eligible applicants with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities.

Key Dates:

  • Program Launch: February 5, 2024
  • “Getting Your Application Ready” Workshop: February 15, 2024, 6:00-7:00 p.m. EST (optional)
  • Application Deadline: March 3, 2024
  • Results Announcement: Mid-April 2024
  • Internships: May to August 2024

Before applying, students must connect with potential supervisors for the internship. The HBHL Trainee Committee has prepared tools, including a template email, to assist applicants in approaching supervisors. Students may use the links to the overview of HBHL-funded projects and the Integrated Program in Neuroscience supervisor database to contact potential supervisors. However, students are free to approach any McGill professor willing to support their application, even if not included in the provided resources.

Completed applications must include a signed Supervisor Agreement Form from a McGill professor and a project proposal aligned with one of HBHL’s four Research Themes.
