Indigenous Initiatives 

The central hub for Indigenous strategies and initiatives at McGill is known as Indigenous Initiatives. Support for Indigenous graduate students

First Peoples' House

McGill's First Peoples' House endeavors to provide a sense of community and a voice to Indigenous students who have left their home communities in order to pursue higher education. All Indigenous students including Métis, the Inuit, & First Nations (both "status" & "non-status"), Maori and Aborigines are welcome.

The First Peoples' House hosts drumming and beading sessions, a weekly Soup and Bannock lunch, and an annual Pow wow. They also offer academic events throughout the year.

The First Peoples’ House also functions as a home away from home for Indigenous students by providing a spacious and welcoming residence for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Indigenous Access McGill (IAM) 

First Nations, Inuit and Métis students in the School of Social Work are supported by the Indigenous Access McGill (IAM) program. Students have access to personalized orientation to their program of study in addition to mentoring and tutoring opportunities. Throughout your studies there are also opportunities for professional development and connecting with other Indigenous students across McGill. Funding opportunities

There are specific funding opportunities for Indigenous graduate students at McGill which may have been offered at the time of admission or can be added during your degree.

Information related to funding is included in the offer of admission. Incoming students in a thesis-based Masters program or PhD program are generally supported by McGill funding (fellowships and assistantships) as well as external funding (e.g., grants, research stipends, and fellowships administered by provincial and federal governments or other agencies). GPS also coordinates the contest for the Indigenous Graduate Excellence Recruitment Fellowship for self-identified Indigenous applicants to a graduate degree program.
