Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS)

McGill Graduate Students are encouraged to participate in the CGPSS survey from February 10 to April 11. Check your inbox for your personalized invitation!

What is CGPSS?

CGPSS is one of two comprehensive surveys of graduate students at McGill. The survey is administered at the Centre de recherche et d'intervention sur l'éducation et la vie au travail (CRIÉVAT), based at Université Laval, and has been run at McGill and other Canadian higher education institutions every three years since 2007. This year, some 50 Canadian institutions of higher education will participate.

The survey asks for your feedback on important aspects of the graduate student experience, including:

  • Satisfaction with your program
  • Professional skills development
  • Research experience
  • Presentations and publications
  • Graduate supervision
  • Financial support
  • University resources and student life
  • Social life

This year, the survey also includes ten McGill-specific questions on graduate student funding and cost of living from the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS).

Why is it important?

CGPSS is a key indicator of the quality of the graduate student experience at McGill and across the country. McGill uses CGPSS results to advocate for graduate students, develop new initiatives and programming and evaluate the impact of our efforts to improve the graduate student experience.

What has McGill done with past CGPSS results?

All past CGPSS results are available for consultation.

Why should I participate?

CGPSS is a simple and secure way for you to communicate your feedback on your graduate program to GPS and to inspire change in graduate education here at McGill and across the country. The more graduate students participate in the survey, the more effective the results will be for advocating for improvements.

Confidentiality

Participation in CGPSS is voluntary, and responses are completely confidential. No individual will ever be identified.
