In partnership with McGill University, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat offers scholarships to citizens of Ghana to pursue their Masters or PhD studies. The agreement aims to strengthen the relations between Ghana and Canada, and for students to train at McGill and apply their knowledge and skill upon graduation to improve the socio-economic conditions of Ghana.

Value & Duration

Ghana Scholarship Secretariat will provide annual funding to cover the cost of the following:

  • McGill tuition fees at the Quebec rate
  • Ancillary fees
  • A stipend for living expenses
  • Health and living insurance plan
  • Cost of return airfare

McGill in turn, will cover the tuition differential between the International and the Quebec Resident rate, as set each year by the Quebec Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The department/supervisor will also provide an annual top-up of $5,000 for the duration of the scholarship.

Funding is provided for a maximum of two (2) years for Masters students and four (4) years for PhD students.

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of Ghana
  • Meet the selection criteria set out by the Secretariat
  • Must apply and receive an Offer of Admission from McGill for a PhD or Masters Thesis program in the eligible areas of knowledge set by the Secretariat each year.

Note that Masters Non-Thesis programs are not eligible for this agreement.
