In line with the community update sent over the weekend, GPS is committed to helping our community in containing the propagation of COVID-19. In this context, we are working to promote social distancing to reduce the number of individuals who are physically present on our campuses or using public transport to come to our campuses.

With this in mind, please note the following regarding graduate activities during campus closure:

  • Courses: All classes, teaching labs, exams and other assessments are suspended for two weeks.
  • PhD Oral Defences: Scheduled defences will be maintained but held online using Zoom. GPS will communicate with the unit and the Oral Defence Committee for each upcoming defence regarding the logistics for online defences.
  • Thesis submissions: Initial thesis submissions will be processed and sent out for examination. Examiner reports will be collected and communicated to units. Final theses will continue to be processed.
  • Graduate student research activities: Please refer to the attached communication. Graduate Students who have questions related to the continuation of their research activities in this context should contact their Graduate Program Directors and/or the Associate Deans at GPS.
  • Comprehensive Exams: These should be postponed until after March 30th, without penalty to the student.
  • Progress Tracking / Supervisory Committee meetings: These should be postponed for the time being, without penalty to the student.
  • Graduate Mobility Awards: Mobility award recipients currently abroad should refer to the e-mail from McGill Abroad.
