Description of Student Experience:

The main focus of my experience was the walk-in clinic every Tuesday and Thursday. Here we saw typical family medicine cases, hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, asthma, URTI, etc. We were allowed to see patients on our own and reviewed with the staff. We became familiar with the paraclinical tests available in low resource settings. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we rounded on the medicine, maternity and pediatric wards. We had the chance to follow-up on patients that we admitted from clinic. There was also a large emphasis on public health. We were able to attend a regional public health meeting regarding Cholera pandemic emergency plan.
