DESCRIPTION:The  Centre for Global Surgery of the McGill Universtiy Health 
 Centre and Global Surgery Interest Group are happy to present the 2016 edi
 tion of the Global Surgery Conference under the theme: High Impact Models 
 in Global Surgery.\n\nThis yearly event brings together professionals and 
 students from different health science backgrounds including medicine\, de
 ntistry\, nursing\, physiotherapy and occupational therapy\, across multip
 le universities to stimulate research\, discuss high-impact action plans a
 nd to promote action in global surgery. The conference aims to provide a f
 orum for students and healthcare professionals of various streams to discu
 ss the different challenges and approaches to the field of global surgery.
 \n\nInjury and surgical disease are significant contributors to global mor
 bidity and mortality. Surgically treatable conditions alone account for ap
 proximately 30% of the global burden of disease. The medical community is 
 increasingly recognizing access to essential surgical care as a core compo
 nent of all health systems\, as demonstrated by the Lancet Commission on G
 lobal Surgery and WHO’s Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surg
 ical Care. Despite this boost in international attention and research\, ba
 sic surgical care remains unavailable to the majority of the world’s popul
 ation.\n\nThe Conference's Keynote speaker will be Raymond R. Price\, M.D.
 \, FACS\, Associate Director - Center for Global Surgery & Professor of Su
 rgery at the University of Utah.\n\nThe  event is seeking accreditation fr
