DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second seminar of the DGPH seminar series with
Dr. Brian Ward\, MD\, former director of JD MacLean Tropical Diseases Cent
er and Professor\, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences\, McGill Univer
sity. Dr. Ward will deliver a talk titled Micronutrients and microbes: Som
e things we know and many things we don't'.\n\nAbstract\n\nMicronutrients
play important roles in the homeostasis of everything from bacteria to pla
nts to people. Many are double-edged swords that can have negative effects
when either too much or too little is available. Several have significant
impact at the interface between people/animals and both microbial partner
s and pathogens. Micronutrients are also 'big business'. The advantages an
d disadvantages of holistic versus reductionist approaches to micronutrien
t science will be discussed using examples from day-to-day life and global
  initiatives.\n
