Ways to Give

About the Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) Network

Donors from France now have a special opportunity to support McGill students pursuing experiential learning experiences within the European Union (EU). Thanks to a partnership with the Fondation de France, residents can make tax-efficient donations to the McGill University Trust (our UK-based charitable entity) through the Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) network. Please note that in keeping with French tax law, the University must spend such tax-efficient gifts within the EU, so they may not be directed to a purpose in Canada or elsewhere.

TGE is a partnership of European foundations and associations that enables individual and corporate donors resident in one of the participating countries to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations in other member countries, while benefiting directly from the tax advantages provided for in the legislation of their country of residence. An eligible donor would therefore receive a tax receipt from their local foundation in the country in which they make the donation.

How it Works

In order to give via the TGE network and be eligible for a tax incentive in France, you must:

  • Be resident in France; and
  • Donate via the Fondation de France to a TGE-approved charitable organization in any of the other countries in the network. The McGill University Trust (UK) has been approved to receive TGE donations.

After your gift is made, you will receive a charitable gift receipt for the full amount of your gift from the Fondation de France. The Fondation will transfer your gift, minus operational TGE fees, directly to the McGill University Trust.

Gifts to the McGill University Trust given via the Fondation de France are subject to TGE fees of 5% on the first €100,000, and then 1% on the remainder of your donation, to a maximum fee of €15,000. These fees help further the mission of facilitating cross-border philanthropy across Europe.

McGill donors who pay tax in France are encouraged to review local tax laws and regulations, or consult a local professional tax advisor for guidance relative to their own situation.
