Jean-Philippe Bernard

Jean-Philippe Bernard is a Ph.D. student at UQAM working under the supervision of Magda Fahrni and Karine Hébert (UQAR). He is interested in the settlement schemes elaborated by the provincial and federal governments during the 1930s. His doctoral thesis, « État, territoire et citoyens: les programmes de colonisation et l’aménagement du territoire durant la Grande Dépression au Québec » studies the effects of these public policies on state formation. It analyzes their impact on the territory of Québec, the settlers displaced by these programs, and Indigenous Peoples by focusing on the relationship between citizenship, gender and colonialism.
