MUHC: Montreal General Hospital

Montreal General HospitalThe Montreal General Hospital is a 533-bed tertiary care hospital with a provincially designated trauma center. It is one of the hospitals of the McGill University Health Center.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine offers consultation services to patients already in the hospital and in the emergency room. In addition, there exists a general Geriatrics Clinic as well as specialized clinics, including a Falls and Fracture Prevention, Memory and Oncogeriatrics Clinic. A multidisciplinary approach is stressed with the involvement of geriatricians, nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.

A unique feature of the Montreal General Hospital is its Day Hospital Program. This unit is an outpatient rehabilitation center for patients who are well enough to live in the community but would benefit from continued rehabilitation after an illness. A multidisciplinary approach is stressed with the involvement of geriatricians, nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.

Research on nutrition, musculoskeletal disease, Oncogeriatrics, cognition (dementia and mild cognitive impairment), and Health Services is carried out at the Montreal General Hospital. Clinical trials are conducted at our Geroscience Clinical Trials Unit located at the Centre for Innovative Medicine (https://rimuhc.ca/research-centres/cim).
