French at Work is here to answer your needs and worries, thanks to an innovating program made for non-francophone students. Through this program, you can discover Quebec’s job market and actively network all the while developing your professional communication skills in French. Useful workshops and theme-oriented conferences will be offered so you can how learn to introduce yourself and stand out during a job interview, and even how to write an attractive CV. What’s more, you’ll get the chance to meet francophone employers and to demystify job hunting in Quebec. So be sure to join us! We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Learn to Know Yourself (2-part workshop)
Tuesday, January 26th
Who are you? Do you know how to sell yourself? To address these questions, you will be asked to create a competency, skills and interests profile. Preparation of a flash-presentation in a friendly environment will ensue. You’ll be ready to stand out during an interview or a networking activity.
Note: this is a 2-part workshop.
Writing a Winning CV in French

Is your French CV attractive to employers? To find out, bring yours in! In this useful workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to learn to maximize your CV-writing skills all the while discovering Québec’s job market. Concrete examples will be provided to allow you to reorganize, improve and correct your own CV. Discussions and constructive commentary included!
Be Well-Prepared for an Interview

If you were an animal, which one would you be? Get ready to answer this question and many more just as wacky to help prepare you for whatever you may encounter during an interview (in French)! You’ll get to learn how to manage your stress and think on your feet during simulated job interviews. You’ll also learn what questions to ask at the end of an interview depending on the desired position. A practical experience guaranteed!

Do you want to be better prepared for real-life professional communication contexts - such as making small talk, talking about work as well as communicating with diplomacy with your coworkers?
The French in the Workplace series offers conversation workshops with a specific focus on workplace communication. The scenarios we will be practising were directly taken from various Montreal workplaces.

*To receive recognition on the co-curricular record for participating, students must attend at least 2 out of 4 conversation workshops.*

Does the idea of speaking French at work make you nervous? Do you know what to say in English, but can't quite find the words in French? Come practise a variety of workplace scenarios that typically happen during the first week of work. We'll cover the following: how to introduce yourself, how to ask your colleagues for help, what to answer when your supervisor asks you how your first day was, etc... After this workshop, you'll feel ready to head into your first week of work in French!

Is making small talk at work a challenge for you? Come practise a variety of workplace scenarios such as talking about your weekend, discussing your summer plans at a networking event, thanking a coworker for a thoughtful gift, or even giving advice to a colleague who confides in you. After this workshop, you will feel much more comfortable navigating the social component of professional French communication.

In a professional setting, does communicating clearly and effectively in French require an additional effort from you? Attending a meeting, presenting a report, splitting tasks when working in a team, or even talking about one's own performance at work - all these situations will require a certain mastery of professional communication. We will roleplay a variety of scenarios in small groups and we will develop countless great strategies that will lead you to success!

Not quite sure how to approach communicating in a diplomatic way, especially when the situation is challenging? We will practise many scenarios such as politely declining an invitation to hang out after work or de-escalating a conflict between two colleagues. Improve your skills and be better prepared when the time comes.
