Family Medicine Two-Year Clinical Curriculum

Curriculum Objectives

Since 2008 the McGill Department of Family Medicine fundamentally changed the structure of our clinical curriculum to be more centred in Family Medicine. We developed our “horizontalized” curriculum that aligns with the Triple C curriculum mandated by the College of Family Physicians. This longitudinal distribution of clinical rotations maximizes the exposure to the Family Medicine Units.

Program Goals:

  1. To prepare our graduates to practice comprehensive Family Medicine in a variety of practice sites.
  2. To sensitize residents to the concept that health and illness exist within a social and political context.
  3. To foster a spirit of critical inquiry in our residents into all aspects of medical practice.
  4. To enable our graduates to meet the standards of certification of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the licensing requirements of the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ).
  5. To provide residents with the tools for lifelong learning.
  6. To support residents in their role as teachers.
