Welcoming three new Postgraduate site directors to our Family Medicine teaching sites

Published: 31 July 2019

The Department of Family Medicine is pleased to announce the appointments of Drs. Sarah Smith, Meira Stern and Ariane Courville-Le Bouyonnec as the new Postgraduate site directors for the CLSC Côte-des-Neiges, the Herzl Family Practice Centre and the CSSS Jardins-Roussillon in Chateauguay, respectively.

After completing her residency at the CLSC Côte-des-Neiges, Dr. Sarah Smith joined the unit as a family physician in 2010, later becoming an Associate Professor. For the past year, she has served as the Undergraduate Site Director, where she oversaw the scheduling, the orientation, the supervision and the evaluation of third and fourth year medical students completing their mandatory or elective rotations in Family Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Smith spent a few years working in a mixed practice, including Emergency Room, Urgent Care and Continuity of Care in different hospital settings in the Montérégie and Northern Quebec regions, as well as in the Northwest Territories.

Dr. Meira Stern has been involved at the Herzl Family Practice Centre for nearly two decades, where she began her medical residency and pursued a fellowship in Maternal and Child Health. She has held various leadership and teaching positions, including currently serving as the Medical Director for the Breastfeeding Clinic since 2008 and the Opioid Substitution Program since 2013. In 2014, she became a leading voice in the upkeep of the latter, which was facing a potential shut down due to budget cuts. As a result, the program continues to grow within the clinic and remains a unique educational opportunity for residents.

Dr. Ariane Courville-Le Bouyonnec joined the CSSS Jardins-Roussillon as a medical resident and furthered her training by undertaking a fellowship in the Clinical Scholar Program, leading to the completion of a Master’s degree in Family Medicine. Her thesis aimed to evaluate a new community outreach clinic being tested at a local food bank in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. This initiative was implemented in partnership with the St. Mary’s Family Medicine Centre and local community organizations including Multicaf, Baobab Familial, and Femmes du Monde.

The Department would also like to take the time to thank Drs. Alexandre Motard (CLSC Côte-des-Neiges), Heather Abrahams (Herzl) and Jérôme-Olivier Jutras (CSSS Jardins-Roussillon) for their hard work and dedication to postgraduate training and education as former Postgraduate site directors.

Please join us in congratulating Drs. Smith, Stern and Courville-Le Bouyonnec on their appointments and in wishing them the utmost success in their new positions!
