Shanice Yarde

Shanice Yarde is the Senior Advisor, Anti-Racism and Equity Education in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice-President Academic. She has worked at McGill since 2016 with a focus on developing equity educational initiatives for employees and creating a more welcoming and inclusive institution for all. She is also one of the lead organizers of Black History Month at McGill which has been celebrated institutionally since 2017.

Outside of McGill, Shanice facilitates and educates in various learning spaces, coordinates the scholarship program for the Black Foundation of Community Networks (BFCN), a non-profit organization which supports Black students pursuing post-secondary education in Canada, and curates free resources such as the BFCN Scholarship Directory, All Black Everything Montreal, and Jobs & Things. She is also the author of Dear Black Girls, a children’s book, published in 2021 by Metonymy Press. One of her favourite guiding quotes is by Maya Angelou and can be found in the signature of her email: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."
