McGill Institute for the Study of Canada: Roundtable Discussion

On February 2nd, join CBC Montreal's Holly Cabrera in a discussion on anti-Black racism. Panelists include David Austin, award-winning author and instructor at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada; Terri Givens, Professor of Political Science and the Provost’s Academic Lead and Advisor on McGill’s Anti-Black Racism Action Plan; and Tari Ajadi, activist and 2022 Predoctoral Fellow in Black Studies at Queen’s University.

Africa Speaks Conference

This year, the theme revolves around African languages on the continent and in the diaspora. This will be explored through 3 panels: Language and Power, Language and the Arts, and Philosophies of Language. The conference will be held on February 10th from 6 PM to 9 PM and on February 11th from 10 AM to 14 PM at the McGill Faculty Club.

Black Flourishing Series: Nurturing Excellence in Business

Desautels brings you a lineup of events that do more than only promote equity in the workplace for Black people: they highlight uplifting aspects of Black culture through enterprise. An exciting series of in-person and virtual events will be taking place between February 13th and February 21st

Interactive Workshop with Prof. Rinaldo Walcott

Join the Faculty of Education and our 2023 keynote speaker, Professor Rinaldo Walcott, in an interactive workshop to discuss modern Black life. The workshop will run from 10-12 on February 2nd, with a complimentary lunch at 12 for those who register.  

The Power of Community and Connection in Advancing Your Career

Join the School of Continuing Studies on February 16 at noon for a conversation with Brian Smith – social entrepreneur, community activist and event producer, in addition to serving as the Vice President, Quebec, for the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE).

A Conversation with Dr. Kyle T. Mays

On February 22nd from 4:00-5:30 PM, join the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and the Anti-Black Racism Action Plan Initiative as they host UCLA professor and author Dr. Kyle T. Mays for a talk titled "Reparations, Landback, and the Possibilities of Kinship as Solidarity."

Black Student Art Exhibition

Founded by McGill student Welly Minyangadou Ngokobi, the "See us, Hear us, Learn from us" Student Art Exhibition will run from 7-9 PM on February 23rd. Award-winning activist and Afrofuturism pioneer Quentin VerCetty will deliver remarks on all things art, creation, and Blackness.

 

Ingram School of Nursing: Experiences of Black Nurses

Join ISoN on February 24th at 5:30 PM, for an evening featuring rich conversations about the impact of Black nurses, their current situation, and how we move forward. The panel will be followed by a Q&A, and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
