This talk will introduce the CPP Mortality Linkage Study\, a linkage between the Collaborative Perinatal Project (CPP) with U.S. mortality data. Emerging findings on the association between postpart um weight retention and long-term mortality will be discussed\, shedding l ight on the lasting health effects of weight gained during pregnancy.\n\nT he second half of the talk will focus on a novel\, community-based strateg y to address postpartum weight retention in high-risk\, low-food-access co mmunities. This approach targets key barriers to healthy eating by enhanci ng food and nutrition security\, leveraging local resources\, and integrat ing sustainable support systems for new mothers. By addressing the structu ral determinants of nutrition\, this strategy aims to improve postpartum h ealth outcomes and reduce disparities in long-term maternal health.\n\nLea rning Objectives\n\nAt the end of this talk\, attendees will be able to:\n \n\n Examine the long-term implications of pregnancy and postpartum weight changes on maternal health\;\n Understand ways to assess food and nutrition security\;\n Learn about novel approaches for addressing barriers to healt hy eating.\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nStefanie N. Hinkle\, PhD\, is a nutritional and perinatal epidemiologist at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman S chool of Medicine\, where she serves in the Departments of Biostatistics\, Epidemiology and Informatics\, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hinkle leads two NICHD funded research studies on nutritional status of individua ls in preconception and pregnancy and the impact on pregnancy outcomes wit h a particular interest in the role of iodine. She also examines food inse curity\, exploring potential interventions to improve nutrition and health outcomes in affected communities.
