DESCRIPTION:JOINT EBOH/CORE SEMINAR SERIES\n\nMathieu Maheu-Giroux\, ScD\n
\nAssociate Professor\n	Dept of Epidemiology\, Biostatistics and Occupation
 al Health | McGill University\n\nWHEN: Monday\, February 26\, 2024 from 4
 to 5 pm\n\nWHERE: Hybrid | 2001 McGill College\, Rm 1140 | Zoom\n\nNote: M
 . Maheu-Giroux will be presenting in-person from 2001 McGill College\, Rm
1140\n\nAbstract\n\nTransmission dynamics models provides a framework –int
egrating epidemiology\, mathematics\, and public health– to understand and
inform the control of infectious pathogens. This type of mathematical mod
els enables researchers to investigate the intricate interplay of epidemio
logical factors\, population dynamics\, and intervention strategies. In th
is talk\, I will briefly review the fundamentals principles of transmissio
n dynamics models and highlight key concepts. Then\, I will discuss real-w
orld applications of models –from SARS-CoV-2 to HIV– that have been used t
o inform public health. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding
of how these models enhance our ability to forecast disease trajectories\,
assess the impact of interventions\, and ultimately contribute to effecti
ve disease control and elimination strategies.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nB
y the end of this session\, attendees will be able to:\n\n\n	Define what is
a transmission dynamic model\;\n	Understand their applications in infectio
us disease epidemiology\;\n	Grasp their strengths and limitations.\n\n\nSpe
aker Bio\n\nMathieu Maheu-Giroux is an Associate Professor in the Departme
nt of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University where he holds a
Tier II Canada Research Chair in Population Health Modeling. Prior to joi
ning McGill\, he received his doctorate in Population Health from the Harv
ard TH Chan Scholl of Public Health and completed a postdoctoral fellowshi
p in mathematical epidemiology at Imperial College London.\n\n \n
