DESCRIPTION:The Biomarker Revolution: Epidemiologists\, Let’s Join It!\n\nD
 r. Enrique Schisterman\n	Chief and Senior Investigator\n	Eunice Kennedy Shri
ver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development\n\nOctober 23
 rd\, 2015 - 13:30 – 16:30\n	Room 25\, Purvis Hall\, McGill University\n	1020
Ave des Pins Ouest\n\n\n	The use of biomarkers to assess exposures and inv
estigate biomedical questions is exploding in epidemiological and medical
research. Exploring the relationships between biomarker levels and health
outcomes can have potentially profound effects on the biomedical community
\, leading to new etiological discoveries\, as well as increased diagnosti
c capabilities for disease.\n\n\n	In estimating parameters of interest such
as means\, variances\, hazard and odds ratios for a particular biomarker\
, population scientists face two main challenges: (1) overcoming the cost
of performing a large number of assays and (2) dealing with measurement er
ror either due to technical or intra-individual variability. In this works
hop\, we will explore new designs and analytical techniques to overcome so
me of the challenges while studying biomarkers\, such as pooling designs\,
hybrid designs\, calibration techniques\, threshold evaluation and causal
methods. We will cover how different biomarkers are measured and that aff
ects epidemiological parameters of interest.\n\n\n	Register at: https://epi
